Spit Game Theory
When I was a kid (waise I am still a kid ..remember Dil to baccha hai ji :)) me nd my elder sis used to play a game called Spit game. This wasn't only a game but was a tool which we used to reach up to some decision when rest of the methods such as intimidating each other or beating each other to death were exhausted. The issues were simple such as 1) who will make tea or 2) who will go to market or 3) who will switch on the water pump or 4) who will go to the shop and get the chacha chaudhary comics and so on and so forth .. sorry the list is really long cause both of us were quite aware of the philosophy of work and compensation:). So when we were stuck at something we used to play this game called SPIT GAME. The game was simple but impeccable, she used to climb on an almirah and I was supposed to stand under it, right next to it and rules were simple --- whoever gets maximum spit on his/her face in five mins shall resign and agree to the other party (u see we had sense of time as well). Unfortunately I always used to lose and She always used to come out clean and poor me used to do all work with my face full of spits. Later when I grew up a bit I understood the game and her trick, I wish Mr. Newton had a word with me and would have told me that my F'ing spit will fall on my face, even if i try to spit on my sister's cause she was on higher pedestal the Almirah:( No hard feelings I grew up thinking now next time I play I will choose the Almirah. When I further grew old and started participating in regular affairs of world such as job, I found that still they were playing the same game. When I ask them to give a hike in salary they will hold a discussion with me ...ssshhhh read as Spit Game.. where again they will ask me to convince them. while they will sit on the almirah and poor me will stand beneath it :( and here also every time I lose.... aawwwww.... when I try to convince some decaying piece of bone ...sshhhh read as an oldie... he will again hold the same discussion and will ask me to convince him ... I am tired of loosing in this game ... they always get the almirah :( But the story doesn't end here, to my greatest surprise it wasn't only my bosses who were playing the Spit Game! There were others player too and it was played all over the world. The Chinese Govt. playing the same game with India, when they talk about Tibet and Chinese get the almirah and poor Indians are like me getting all the spit ...aaawwwww... same game is being played between America vs Iraq, Iran, Pakistan and Afaganistan and many more .. and our American (the world saviours.. remember all the world saving moviz which are produced in Hollywood!) always manage to get the Almirah:) Even Jews are not left out they are also playing the Spit Game with Palestinians and its evident that Jews have got the Almirah ... of course with the Coke power, the Nike and all banking firms they have got, they got to get the almirah:) Not only world leaders even our Indian heroes ... read Politicians... are an expert in this game .... the Maoist and Home Minister are in to this game.... Mr. Renaissance Man Modi played the spit game in Godhra .... though it was a bit more brutal .. but that's okay the nature of game was same .... Congress is playing the game over Women's bill .. at times wonder who needs reservation men of women! Even my maid seems to be so interested in this game when she talks about salary hike but mind you she is smart enough to get the almirah all the time... poor me:( .. so i can safely conclude that this spit game is not only a kid's game anymore ... its rather a global game and more famous and addictive than soccer! Everybody is playing .... even God at times seems to be playing this game .... So the idea is ...YOU CAN NEVER GET OUT OF THE SPIT GAME, ALL YOU SHOULD ENDEAVOUR IS TO GET THE ALMIRAH ... you can never come out of this game ... just run and grab the almirah .. now I understood why mumbai trains are over crowded and why people are always in hurry because all of them are running to grab the almirah ..of course nobody likes the spit on his face ..do u ??

Indian philosophy has a concept of 'matsyanyaya': big fish swallows the smaller one. You know the concept of social darwinism i believe- survival of the fittest. your idea of trying to get teh almirah is actually this darwinism, and the ones who cannot adapt lose the game!
ReplyDeletebut i'd like to differ on the issue of 'decaying bones'- age has the treasure of experience. Everyone is wicked, crooked, shrewed.... to a larger or smaller degree, and this too again is within the framework of social darwinism: everyone is trying to survive. i guees yoy got to learn a lot from their experiences :)
I dont think that giving different names to the same concept really brings out the solution - how to get to the almirah always. We've been reading all our lives about such ideas and philosophies, it is high time that such intellectual minds instead of deriving the same theory again and again try to move forward and come to an equation whose roots lead you to the almirah always and always.
ReplyDelete@as i move on: i guess what was implied earlier is not clear. survival of the fittest implies reaching the almirah. and there is no single formula for success :) what chetan's sis as a kid could afford was to sit on top of almmirah n spit. but in adulthood, the fittest would be the one who could, instead of wasting time on a single almirah! though the analogy may not sound too pleasnt if visualized, but in the race of life, none of us can have the childhood luxury of standing and watch ourselves being spat at! the key is either move away or grab the almirah or the best would be to find a place still higher than that almirah! :) that is 'social darwinism' or what you would call as an 'equation' :)
ReplyDeletei agree wid d survival of d fittest or wat u said social darwinism,as juzz being a child at dat age wen dese siblings used to play dis game almirah was d only highest place for dis particular game but also think abt d aims n ambitions 1 wud try to climb higher n higher on d 'x' almirah wich can b cmpared wid any goal we thrive in life even if dnt reach d spot we atleast cme closer n dis is nt a spoon fed success bt smethin u hv achieved by running behind it continuously doesnt matter if greed includes f grabbin d chair n sittin in it obviously it has to b for 1 nt all f dem who wants it so chetan i hope even if u reach 1 almirah u'll always b in thirst for climbing another 1 wich is more modernised n more techy we all r actually in d race its human nature but at d same tym wer ders a will ders a way :)
